There’s more to our aquariums than meets the eye.

Beneath the Surface: The Campaign for the North Carolina Aquariums is a bold initiative to transform the way people of all ages learn about and engage with aquatic life.

The North Carolina Aquariums are more than a place to explore aquatic life—they are vital centers for education, conservation, and scientific discovery.

Supporting the continued growth of our aquariums, Beneath the Surface: The Campaign for the NC Aquariums will fund the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher’s first major renovation in more than two decades.

What you’ll see:
  • An impressive new shark habitat
  • Interactive, hands-on touch pools
  • State-of-the-art education center bringing aquatic education to life

What lies beneath the surface:
  • Expanded educational programs cultivating future marine biologists, scientists, and conservationists
  • Enhanced conservation and habitat restoration efforts
  • Increased capacity to protect endangered marine species

Additionally, the campaign will fund upgraded touch habitats at Roanoke Island and Pine Knoll Shores and new solar panels at Jennette’s Pier.

With $4 million to go, your gift can bring this transformational vision to life.

Thanks to the generosity of the NC General Assembly and more than 100 early supporters, Beneath the Surface: The Campaign for the NC Aquariums has raised $65 million toward our $69 million goal.

Now, we’re calling on anyone who believes in the power of aquatic education, conservation, and that spark of wonder you feel every time you walk into a North Carolina Aquarium to support us.
